Easter Seals Camp – Squamish, BC, Canada
Interviews with Teachers:
Photos From The Conference:
Following our first BC Canadian Shamanic Conference and our subsequent Shamanic Retreat which were both held at Easter Seals Camp Squamish, British Columbia, Canada, The SCGMSS with the guidance of the spirits manifested a 2nd Conference & Gathering once again held at Easter Seals Camp, a 33-acre site by the Squamish River and under the Garibaldi Mountains features endless grass fields and forested nature trails, which were blessed by soaring bald eagles. This year the Conference & Gathering was longer with the addition of an extra day, and again we hopefully kept fees as low as possible so that everyone had the chance to experience the magic of the Shamanic Community and Family.
We all had looked forward to all being together in the magic of Spirit, meeting old friends and getting to know new ones since that last Conference and in coming together we were not disappointed with the community and family that gathered. With ages ranging from 2 – 72 and kindred from seemingly across the world, the magic began almost immediately with a long overdue celebration and honouring of the Gyre of Elders of the Wolven Path Tradition which seemed to set the format of nightly dancing, drumming and singing. The skilful and soulful drumming of Marie Josée Vermette captured and enthralled the wild hearts and feet in us all with the dedicated assistance of the exuberant drumming group that gathered with her and the powerful throat singing of Richard Hahn. Contrasted by the ethereal and haunting playing of Jeff Stockton on the harp, accompanied by Howard Malpas and Nathan Bunker on flutes, which carried us into the dreams of songs hidden deep within our souls.

Anvil Song; newly initiated during the Gathering and a sign of their service to healing the community by the spirits offered 2 “Wrap About Healing Ceremonies”, this ancient ceremony of the Mountain Traditions of cleansing, purification and healing contains the elements of caring, intimacy and mother energy. Its spirit is one of bringing the Lamenter to a deeper appreciation and commitment of and to themselves. In this context all ‘negative’ energies are dispersed. Its power was in its simplicity and soothing silence, its stillness of being and its absolute focus on the Lamenter.
This Conference and Gathering brought together not just the Canadian Shamanic Community & Family, but the Clans, Tribes and Families of other countries to come together in Community, in accordance to the Wolven Path Tradition. In this Global Gathering we celebrated our Mother the Earth, the Stars, our Ancestors, the Spirits and the magic of each other in the energy of the May Moons of the Mother & the Maiden.
We came to share our wisdom, our experience, our spirit, our blessings, our healing and our dreams.
The story of the Heart goes out and shines in the world.
The traditional Shaman was the Traveller, walking the journey between worlds and service.
The Traveller is not exempt from weariness, despite the vows of their calling, and a good warrior knows when to rest and take stock of all that they have.
As a united community we gathered to connect our and all hearts together into one great heart, then to journey into the earth allowing the Spirits to guide us where they may and to place the light we had gathered together during the conference and ground it in the earth. In this we were and are the seeds that will grow in the world and as these seeds grow and birth and blossom in us, so to will the world Green again and bloom in community.
We honoured the spirits of this Land, the spirits of the Eight Directions, the Spirits of the Great Forest, the spirit of the Seed carried by the Sparrow to bloom and the spirits in each of us that have held, warmed and carried us through the past days. Together with the spirits of each of us as a family, we will honour our journey forward. Cleansing as Sacred the feet that walk that path and trusting that the path will not test us to extremes. As Spirit Travellers, As Pathfinders, our hearts shine. As the Wheel of Seasons turns the Great Tree comes to the Shadow of the Western Twilight, it is inevitable that stories end so that they can be told again and new stories sung.
Together we learnt new songs and new dance steps under the Moon of the Mothers & Maiden where we played as children in Eden in the presence of all our Ancestors.
The Ancestors and Elders are asking to be remembered; it is only by them that we are here. The Ancestors and Elders want us to know we are already dead and become ancestral dust for our Descendants. The Ancestors and Elders ask for respect of their lives that bring us to this moment.
In and from this Gathering the Ancestors and Elders asked for sacrifice, however small, even the sacrifice that a child would make. Together we vowed however and anyway we can accomplish their requests, will keep the Wheel of Seasons turning and the River of Blood and Breath flowing, never forgetting the One Song.
As we said our farewells and took our leave of that place of this Gathering, with every footstep from there we will be mindful that everyone and everything around and that comes into and out of our lives is a reminder to our ancestral destiny as we are to theirs. We will honour every Elder of every being, honour all the young, hold space with our own relatives and ancestors, honour and respect the path of all who are in the same journey. In this small way the Ancestors will be remembered and their wisdom with ours will flow to the Descendants.
We sang together to remember to be the Mother and the Child in all that we do; care for others, our home – this Earth, our kin in all creatures of this Earth and to honour ourselves for being available to the Turning of the Wheel of Seasons. Blessings of Spirit on all our Paths.
~ Reverend Pathfinder Shaman John-Luke Edwards
